Amputee cyclist/runner Bill Hansbury, well-known in the Tampa Bay area as "Boston Bill" was the subject of a special ESPN feature story, originally aired Sunday, August 29, 2010. The 10-minute feature recounts Hansbury’s inspiring story of losing his leg three years ago at the age of 69 and his determination to return to the cycling and running he had loved for so many years. His experience motivated him to start the non-profit Boston Bill Foundation, Inc., which provides artificial limbs to those without insurance coverage or an ability to pay. Also included in the feature is Jake Bainter, a young boy from Orlando whose family had a chance encounter with Hansbury as they were taking him to have his leg amputated at All Children’s Hospital. That meeting sparked a friendship which was chronicled in People magazine in 2009. The feature will be available on YouTube, the St. Petersburg Limb & Brace Web site and the Boston Bill Foundation Web site . Or directly from the ESPN site here.
