I'm sure that most of you are aware of the importance of a good bicycle fitting to enhance one's performance and comfort on a bike. One of the local fitting systems available is the Retul system. I have written an article on the system for "Florida Racing Magazine," and it can be found at:

http://www.floridaracingmagazine.com/dec-1-2009.html

My article is on pages 48-52.

As an aside, the subscription to this excellent magazine is free, and it is published in digital form twice a month. It is state-of-the-art in its features. I know many of you have no interest in racing, but there are many articles published of general interest to the cycling community, and the price is right!

On a personal note, I would like to share some exciting news with you. I just received a full factory sponsorship by Teschner Bicycles out of Australia. They will be building me one of their new, state-of-the-art Teschner 703 time trial bicycles which they hope to send me by Christmas. You can see this gorgeous machine here:

I hope to see you all at the Christmas party. Be safe.

Great article. I was fitted by Park up at Outspokin and it was easily the best $250 I've spent on my bike. He spent about an hour with me, hooked up to the computer and kept making adjustments until all the angles were perfect. He adjusted everything, even my cleat position, and now my bike really feels like it fits me perfectly.

Justin, that's great to hear! Park is a super guy and an expert fitter. I can't wait to get fitted by Park on my new Teschner time trial bike which will hopefully arrive from Australia real soon.

Boston Bill was also fitted last week - he won the fitting at the club Christmas party. He called me that day to tell me how pleased he was with the results.

Now hold on to that fast bike until you get used to the extra speed!
|

Definitely enjoying the extra speed. I've been riding a fixie for a couple years now and am really happy I made the transition to a geared bike (although I do still ride the fixie as well).

By the way, and this could probably be a topic for another conversation, I am interested in getting into racing and am looking to find 1 or 2 races sometime toward the middle to end of next year to start training for. Do you have any suggestions for a good race or two for a beginner?

Thanks in advance.
|

Justin:

The Florida cycling calendar is absolutely full with every type of race from time trials, track racing, cyclocross, moutain biking, etc. A full schedule and results can be found at www.floridacycling.com. These are USCF sanctioned events which require buying a license from USA Cycling - $60 a year. For those over 50, there is a full calendar of senior games events throughout the year culminating in the state championships the second week in December.

I can steer you towards some good events. During the time you allude to, there will be some local events such as a series of races in Pinellas Park and the Squiggy Classic which is also in the Tampa Bay Area. We can talk about it.
|
