Today's social library ride destination was to be the Sunshine Skyway Trail--it appeared that t'storms were going to be in the northern part of the county.
Leaving the library at 8:30, we took 37th St. down, made a left at the roundy-bout and right onto 31st St. go straight through the 54th Ave S light, then make a right at the next light (Pinellas Point?) and then a left to merge onto the skyway trail. (general directions)
As there is no more fishing from the bridges, the 1st section of the trail was debris-free. Upon cresting the 1st bridge out, there loomed the inevitable storm clouds. A decision was made to stay dry, so we turned around and meandered around the golf course to find breakfast at Munches. Lo & behold, the Daisy Pickers drifted in.
After some friendly conversation, hot coffee and good home-cooking, we headed back to the library, avoiding the storms to the east. However, the ride split into two groups, both bound back to the library. My group opted to take the trail back. We took shelter for a few moments to let the cats & dogs passby, I must say they left a lot of puddles on the trail. Otherwise, we managed to stay dry the rest of the way.
Today's ride speed was in the range of 18, some spurts of 20. As usual, the apres meal speed dropped to 16. I'm guessing total distance from the library & back was about 20 miles. We will attempt to do the Skyway Ride again.
